Practical May 3, 2009 Reviewer: Nicholas Giampietro from Ossining, NY United States   I collect gas masks and I am a Haz-mat Emergency responder and volunteer firefighter. A lot of sites will call the Gp-5 seen here as a gimmick, not very protective and they will tell you not to buy them. I do agree that it is not a very reliable chemical or biological filter, I do think it is great for it's original purpose; radioactive fallout. This mask is inexpensive but well made and definitely better than nothing in an NBC situation. If you want serious protection, an SCBA or rebreather is the way to go, but if your in a pinch, this is an apr and will provide some protection. Remember, no apr (gasmask) is 100% good at everything, but they are very close. Was this review helpful to you?
